Mount Towrong Vineyard History
George and Deirdre bought their property in 1991 and planted their first vines Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in 1994, with the help of family and friends. Nebbiolo was planted in 1999, and Prosecco followed in 2003. Recently, in 2019, a new variety Pinot Bianco was planted to complete the 6.5 acres of vineyard.
The Mount Towrong cellar door was built in 2005 and was designed by Architect Paul Couch. It was the first project George and Paul worked on together, with the intent of the building becoming a cellar door. In the early days of being a cellar door, a pool table was positioned upstairs, for the occasional game. As the cellar door grew busier, the pool table was made into a dining table to share wine and food. The building features a large sliding reclaimed timber front door and makes the most of the surrounding views both upstairs and downstairs. When all of the doors are open, sunshine pours into the cellar door bringing the outside indoors. During the cooler months, the warmth of the wood fires enhances the relaxed atmosphere in the cellar door.
